Job Purpose & Position Overview:
To provide nutrition expertise in planning, implementing and evaluating the nutrition care, education, and prevention with special emphasis on family-oriented education of those recently diagnosed with diabetes, other disease states and healthcare needs for our Native American patients and community tribal members. To provide nutrition consulting to inpatients admitted to the hospital, patients in our outpatient primary care clinic and telehealth nutrition counseling as needed. Provide coverage for the Director of Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) with aspects of supervision, food production services and storage areas during times of leave. This includes interpreting and following general written and/or oral instructions and policies established by the hospital administration, director, standard work procedures, sequences of operations, national and state food codes.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Demonstrate the WCHS core mission, vision and values.
Provide direction, guidance and oversight to NFS department when Director of NFS is off-site.
Assist with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of diabetes and other outpatient programs including nutrition services as part of the Advanced Primary Care Model.
Reviews, selects, develops and disseminates suitable educational and counseling materials for patient in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
Provides medical nutrition therapy to individuals and nutrition education to groups in outpatient or community settings directed at control of type 2 diabetes and health conditions.
Conducts comprehensive nutritional assessment for all patients, developing nutritional care plans with them and their families consistent with cultural, social, and physiological requirements.
Plans for and participates in-group teaching and training of clients, staff, and community members to expand services and increase public awareness of diabetes, diabetes control and prevention.
Provides consultation to professional and paraprofessional staff concerning diets and nutrition; records information in medical records regarding nutritional requirements, patient’s progress, education, follow up, etc.
Ensure all inpatient menus provide therapeutic, texture, and supplemental components as indicated by patient’s diet order.
Conduct telehealth nutrition consultations as needed to provide comprehensive nutritional care coverage.
Designs a NFS performance improvement monitor, collects and analyzes data; reports results to Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Department and NFS Department.
Communicates with Director of NFS on workflow recommendations.
Assist Director of NFS to maintain compliance with the Conditions of Participation as set forth by CMS and any hospital accreditation providers.
Supervises and monitors cooks in production of food for nutritive value, color, palatability, and acceptability.
Maintains food storage areas for cleanliness, proper storage and food labeling.
Annual peer review in conjunction with Director of NFS.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
Degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) in effect at the time of graduation. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is evidence of meeting CDR requirements.
Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that was conducted as part of the undergraduate program or after completion of basic requirements for a baccalaureate degree.
Registration/Certification: Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or the completion and successfully passing of the registration exam within three months of hire.
Current state licensure or ability to apply for state licensure within three months of initial hire date.
Excellent leadership skills.
Knowledge of computer programs and software such as Word or Excel to complete NFS reports.
Ability to prepare reports, analyze numbers for interpretation, and budget.
Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing and electronically.
Physical Requirements:
Normal to light office work that includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
Position may require frequent standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds with assistant of lifting devices and other workers.
Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate
computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
Mental Requirements:
Reading, writing, calculating .
Above average social interaction skills.
Reasoning/Analytical skills.
Work with minimal to no supervision.
Language Requirements:
Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
Certificates, Licenses & registrations:
