The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for medical nutrition therapy at Great Plains Health, which includes planning and delivering nutrition care to patients in accordance with the physicians’ diagnoses and requirements of regulatory agencies. The Clinical Dietitian promotes nutrition to staff, visitors and to the public at large. The Clinical Dietitian functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team to identify patients at nutritional risk, and has the knowledge and skills necessary to assess patients of all ages and modify treatment plans accordingly.

1. Interprets and applies practice guidelines from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in nutritional assessment and care-planning activities for patients, according to their age, learning needs, culture and disease-specific needs.
2. Develops and implements an appropriate nutrition care plan for all assigned patients.
3. Continuously evaluates and monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of medical nutrition therapy intervention. Completes comprehensive patient reassessments, addressing previously identified nutrition-related problems.
4. Function as an integral member of the clinical interdisciplinary team.
5. Identify and provide age-specific nutrition education/counseling to inpatients and outpatients.
