Job Title: WIC Nutrition Educator
Reports To: WIC Program Manager
Areas of Responsibility: Assume responsibility for the planning and implementation of WIC nutrition education and function as a Certified Professional Authority in the certification process of WIC clients.
Assume responsibility for planning, implementation, and evaluation of the WIC nutrition education program.
Prepare nutrition education lesson plans.
Review and recommend nutrition education educational materials.
Display nutrition-related posters, bulletin boards in clinics.
Provide nutrition education counseling and breastfeeding support to WIC clients based on identified nutritional risk factors and individual needs.
Complete medical history and care plan for prenatal, postpartum, infant, and child WIC Certification in accordance with the State of Nebraska and local WIC procedure manuals.
Assure that health and nutrition education is delivered and documented in accordance with WIC rules and regulations.
Refer clients to other medical and social service agencies as appropriate.
Participate in community outreach activities.
Maintain current knowledge of dietetic principles and nutrition guidelines through review of current professional publications and workshops.
Determine WIC eligibility based upon dietary, anthropometric, clinical and health history data.
Coordinate WIC services with other agency and community partners, such as Head Start.
Maintain confidentiality of records and communications.
Attend staff meetings and training opportunities as required.

90% office environment with clinic interaction with the public
10% training and meetings.
Work is frequently stressful and requires meeting tight deadlines.
In and out of town travel.
Requires periods of typing and sitting at desk.
Fine manipulation of hands with repetitive action.
Operate office machines.
Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.
Must regularly talk, hear and have close vision ability.
Registered Dietitian with valid Nebraska license strongly preferred, Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from an accredited college or university, or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
Minimum 12 hours nutrition courses, preferably diet therapy or clinical nutrition.
Proficient oral and written communication to effectively communicate with individuals of diverse ages, abilities, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and sexual orientation.
Age 21 years or above.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Must meet minimum qualifications above;
Five years experience providing nutrition education, preferably for parents with infants and pre-school children.

2 Specialized training.
