This position is located in the Clinical Nutrition service line at the Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System (NWIHCS) and will report to the Chief of Clinical Nutrition in Omaha , NE.
The Nebraska Western Iowa (NWI) Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) for MOVE will be involved in the professional practice of dietetics in accordance with the guidance set forth in Nutrition and Food Service policies and procedures and VA regulations and governing the practice of dietetics established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:
The NWI RDN has responsibility for implementing health promotion and disease prevention activities to support the health and well-being of the Veteran population.
Serves as the Medical Nutrition Therapy expert to plan and communicate compassionate, quality, patient centered, nutrition therapy and intervention to Veterans, caregivers, and members of the interdisciplinary health care team using both verbal and written communication including documentation in the VA’s electronic medical health record by incorporating medical, social, cultural, ethnic and religious needs and preferences across the continuum of care.
Address nutrition related problems and provide safe and effective, evidence based nutrition therapy using the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process with special attention to customer service. Integrating best research evidence with clinical expertise, patient values, and ethical considerations in delivery of nutritional care.
Must have the ability to use a variety of informatics and technology software operations in an integrated manner to achieve positive health care outcomes.
The NWI RDN may be scheduled and assigned to any nutrition practice area, and must possess the required knowledge and skills to perform education for Veterans and employees as indicated in a wide variety of care settings.
Responsible for education programs communicating nutritional knowledge and the supporting visual aids materials, pamphlets, diet instructions necessary to provide educational opportunities to professional staff, medical students, non-professions staff, volunteers, trainees, Veteran’s and the general public.
Maintains HIPPA Standard ensuring confidentiality of all information to ensure the privacy of patients in accordance with medical center privacy guidelines.
